SANCTITY OF SMOKING COMPARTMENT.
My first feelings on reading "Nineteen's" indictment on ladies occupying seats in the smoking compartment were of resentment at her insolent remarks; but on second thoughts the thing seemed so ridiculous as to be hardly worth comment. What would happen if "Nineteen's" opinions were general? Why, no lady with any self-respect would travel in the smoker to be thought unrefined and of y questionable taste. What about the transport difficulties that would arise if ladies refused to occupy seats in a smoker ? As smoking is so general these days does "Nineteen" really expect us to class its addicts mostly as greatly lacking in character and backbone? H.W.
