SENIOR B GRADE. THE FINAL GAME. BIG TASK FOR PARNELL. . The final struggle for the senior B grade championship, between Parnell and North Shore, winners of their respective sections, was continued last Saturday afternoon under favourable conditions. It will be remembered that on the previous Saturday North Shore were fortunate enough to win the toss and bat under adverse conditions for bowlers. Play ceased on the first day with the score at 177 for the loss of one wicket. The result of the second day's play proved that North Shore had no reason to regret the careful measures adopted in the early stages. After the departure of Walters and Smith no serious opposition was offered, and the innings terminated at 305 runs, nevertheless a very handy total for such an important occasion. The two not out batsmen, Walters, with a century to his credit, and H. Smith, with 57, resumed, but it was not long before the extended partnership was broken, H. Smith (67) being run out after adding ten runs to his over-week total. Walters (147), by strong shots on both sides of the wicket, added 47 more before he was taken behind the wickets by Siddle off Simmers. In his long innings Walters had undoubtedly paved the way for Shore's substantial score. With Smith 170 runs were registered for the second wicket. T. Smith (20) hit three fours in a lively though lucky strike. Blanchfield (17) exhibited good defence. H. Rankin (13) and Jay (10) were the only other batsmen to get runs. Of course it was difficult for the Parnell bowlers to make up for the punishment sustained on the first day, and in consequence their averages suffered rather severely. Clapham (three for 64) bowled 23 overs, including half a dozen maidens, and had Shore's later batsmen troubled. McGeehan (three for 90) bowled as many overs ae Clapham. He captured a couple of wickets in his twenty-first over. Burt secured one for 14 rune and Simmers took Walters' wicket, but had 58 runs knocked off hie bowling. In pursuit of the big score and with the championship at stake Parnell opened most disastrously, thanks to T. Smith, who secured the wickets of Stewart (1) and Cleal (0) with the total at eight runs. However, Worth and Gillies made a good effort to retrieve the position, but at the half century Walters clean bowled Worth (19) with an off break. Gillies (33 not out) showed splendid defence but nevertheless, hit hard anything loose, and obtained a couple of fours. This game is now suspended until April 8. For North Shore T. Smith (two for 21) sent down eleven overs, but did no damage after his early success. Walters (one for 11) bowled three overs, including one maiden. WIN ON FIRST INNINGS. Although Ponsonby put up the biggest total of the season and got rid of University twice during the afternoon, beyond a sporting contest, it counted for naught so far as points were concerned. Still, it must be admitted that it was more evidence in revealing the strength of the Ponsonby side.

Naturally, the fofe total of 453 proved too much, for the students, and even, tne most enthusiastic of the side never for a moment dreamt of getting within coo-ee of the ecore. :., . The students made only 57 in the first innings, and in the second lost tbre ? wickets for 142 runs, Shanly (68 not out) and Hamilton (28 not out) making the bulk of the runs.
