BLOCKHOUSE BAY
FORESHORE lIMPROVEMENTS. WORK ON RETAINING WALL. Improvements to the foreshore at Blockhouse Bay were referred to at last night's meeting of the City Council when the Blockhouse Bay Beach Improvement Association requested that a sum of money be placed on the estimates to enable the completion of the retaining wall, work upon which, the association asserted, had been stopped. The city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, reported that there had been no cessation of the work on the wall, and during the current financial year £1973 had been expended, including £1568 for relief wages. A statement had been, made by°the association that many tons of filling had been washed away by liigh tides. Nothing like that quantity had been lost. Temporary provision had been made to retain the filling. . Dealing with a request for a slipway for the use of 60 boat owners, the engineer said that provision had been made for the construction of six flights of steps from the reserve to the beach. The area set aside for the wintering of pleasure craft was in another part of tlie beach. • : ' It was decided to adopt the engineer's report and forward copies to the association.
