WOMEN'S COUNCIL.

FURTHER REMITS CARRIED. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. (By . Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. At the conference of the National Council of Women to-day a remit supporting compulsory voting at general elections evoked expression of the opinion that there -was already too much compulsion in New Zealand. The remit was lost. A remit urging that women should work heart and soul to put women into Parliament was carried. Another remit was carried urging that both eexes should be placed on equality in regard to nationality. Another remit adopted expressed the council's regret that the League of Nations Conference had refused the request of women of 41 nations that a woman should not lose her nationality upon her marriage. It was recommended that the New Zealand Government should be urged to continue efforts toward this reform. It was decided that the council should ask the Manufacturers' Association to supply all storekeepers with a list of New Zealand-made goods. Delegates remarked that it had been proved in many instances that neither the retailer nor the customer knew the full extent of New Zealand products. Miss S. E. Jackson was presented with a purse and a souvenir upon her retirement from the position of Dominion treasurer. She was made a life member of the Dominion executive in appreciation of her services. She is the first officer to be awarded officially with the permanent possession of the Dominion badge of honour, which, she said, ehc appreciated most of all. At the annual meeting the following officers were elected to the council for the coming year:—Dominion president, Miss B. E. Carnaeban; Dominion secretary, Miss C. J. Flatt; Dominion treasurer, Mrs. E. McNair; hon. solicitor, Miss E. Melville; hon. auditor, Miss Basten. Dr. Delamore was elected to fill the vacancy i" the Standing Committee for Public Health, and Mrs. McNair and Misa Camachan were elected to the committees for Finance and Economic Questions respectively.
