ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL.

(Maureen Moss, 30, Wellesl'ey Boad, Napier.) St. Paul's Cathedral stands on the site of an ancient Pagan temple existed in London in the 'third century. The present noble building- is the third that lias been erected on this ground. The second —a fine Gothic structure which possessed what was then the highest spire in the world —was totally destroyed in the great fire of 1666, and in 1674 the first stone of Wren's great church was laid. The edifice was completed in 1710 and cost £1,511,202. Its total length from the main portico to the east end is 510 feet, its breadth 282 feet, and its height 365 feet, the cross being 404 feet above water level.
