MANAWATU MEETING.

CHOPIN VICTORIOUS. FAGANELLI TAKES SPRINT. GOLDEN WINGS THE CLASSIC. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star."> PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday. The Manawatu Racing Club's autumn meeting was conduced to-aay in fine weather. There was a good attendance. The track wa* much improved. The totalisator handled £10,850, compared with £9811 on the second day last■ year. The total for the meeting was £22,128, an increase of £50 on the 1932 figures of £22,078. Never In Doubt. Though Full Mark won the hurdles m convincing fashion on the first day, he failed to reproduce that form to-day, and was beaten into third place. Advenus won from end to end. Whenuanui wae second for a mile, but was then done with, and Callamart, Full Mark and Easterly followed Adventus to the last lence. Adventus never left the issue in doubt, winning decisively by a length and a halt. A good tuesle for second place saw Callamart beat Full Mark and Easterly by over a length. Calamine was fifth. A Big Dividend. In the Lockwood Handic'ap a remarkably big dividend was paid by Cniet Marionette, who got up in the last stride to return close on three score. Haulbowline and Foreign Queen made the pace to the straight, where Chief Marionette, Golden Chant, Wasteland and Ida Merhng were handy. At the distance Haulbowlme appeared to have the race in hand, but Chief Marionette challenged, and when Haulbowline faltered at the last, got up to win by a neck. Ida Merling was over a, length away. Wasteland was fourth. Bonnie Vale never looked likely. A Good Finish. The issue in the Tamatete Handicap was in doubt till the finish. First Acre, who was to have left for Australia from Auckland, led out of the straight from Spearful and View Halloo, but going into the back stretch Arrow Lad went from last) to first in , a furlong, and crossing the top was showing the way to First Acre, Spearful, La Poupee, Shrewd, Chopin and Golden Horn. This was the order into the straight, where View View Halloo was well back. In a great finish La Poupee worked through, but Chopin challenged, and beat La Poupee by half, a length. View Halloo came from the back to cut Shrewd ' out of third money, a length and a half away. First Acre was fifth. Then came Arrow Lad. La Poupee just failed to see out the journey. Spearful had every chance. Another Surprise, Another surprise occurred in the Stonyhurst Handicap, Lady Spy, who was at a good price, scoringly nicely. Leisure, Pomp and Sir Pombal made play across the top from Broken Rule, Lady Spy and Farmer, but at the home turn Pomp and Lady Spy were,,on terms, with Leisure , ahead of Sir Pombal, Broken Rule and Farmer. Once in line Lady Spy drew out, winning by a length and a half from Roval Bengal, who came from a long, way back, and cut Farmer out of second money. Miladi was fourth, with Pomp and Cuticle next. The chances of Farmer and Royal Bengal were spoiled by their being badly placed at the home ,-turn. A Fine Sprinter. There was a high-chiss field in the Manawatu Stakes, and Diatomous then, Autopay held the early lead. Golden Wings took charge in the last half-mile, showing the way across the top a length in front of Autopay, with Inflation half a length back, and two lengths to Red Manfred and Diatomous. The order into the straight was Golden Wings, Autopay, Inflation and Red Manfred. Golden Wings bad to be kept going to hold the fastfinishing Red Manfred. Inflation finished well in third place, and the margins were three-quarters of a length each way. Autopay was fourth. The victory was a convincing one, and Golden Wince is undoubtedly a great sprinter. Red Manfred, who was well back at the home turn, .did well to get so close. The Two-year-olds. The Cloverlea Nursery was a good thing for Lady Nan, who led all the way, though she was under pressure at the finish, to beat Bay Tree by a short head. Limbohin got the worst of the start, and Lady Nan led to the straight from Arise, Bay Tree and Quietly. The favourite had a good, lead at the distance, but Bay Tree finished gamely, and was only just beaten. Catalogue came from last to third, a length away, and Quietly was fourth, with Limbohm next. The Adderstone Handicap. The Adderstone Handicap provided one of the best finishes of the meeting, Cotsfield,. Morrath, White Squall and Red Flush were prominent early, with Revision and Constant Sun at the back of the field. There was little change until half a mile from home, where Revision and then Constant Sun commenced to move forward, and the order into the straight was Cotsfield and Morrath, from Red Flush, Revision, White Squall, Beaconsfield and Constant Sun. Once in line Revision worked through to the front, but failed to withstand a brilliant challenge from Constant Sun. who mowed down the field to head Revision. Red Flush was a length away third, and Kalmuk fourth,, with' Capetown, White Squall and Morrath next. Played With Opposition. Souchong and Paganclli were in' strong demand for the open sprint, which was brilliantly won by the Frankton horse, who outclassed the opposition over t l, •• final bit. Souchong and Arisus made play in the first two furlongs, and crossing the top Souchong was followed by Arisiiri. Paganell and All Humbug, at length intervals, with Arvada two lengths away last. Paganelli, on the fence, and Arisiis followed Souchong into the straight, and All Humbug joined in at the distance. When Souchong cried enough it looked like All Humbug, who was going fast, but Paganelli was lucky enough to get through, and played with the others, drawing away to win easily by two lengths from All Humbug. Then came Arisus, a length and a half further back Souchong was fourth. Additional results:— TAMATETE HANDICAP of ISOsovsi One mile and a quarter. 3—2—CHOPIN. 7.12— K. Voitre 1 7—B—LA POUPEE. 7.7— W.
