WEEK-END PRICES IN SHOPS. EGGS A PENNY DEARER. LETTUCE A CHEAP LINE. ISLAND ORANGES ARRIVE. Supplies of fruit arrived from the Islands this week by two steamers. The oranges came to a good market owing to there being no Californians on hand. Quinces are now fairly plentiful, and large quantities of apples are being sent to market, the popular Northern Spy being offered as low as 3d per lb, and Cox's Orange Pippin at 4d. Pears are also plentiful, Louis Bons being quoted at 3d to 4d per lb. As no supplies of tomatoes from the Hutt reached this market, owing to the block on .the line, local-grown met •with better demand, and prices showed an upward tendency. Grand Duke plums are selling at from 5d to 6d per lb. Supplies of vegetables from Ohakune cannot at present be sent by rail to the Auckland markets. This, particularly applies to cabbage and cauliflower. Lettuce are now in very heavy supply and sell at from Id to 2d per head.
