ST. GEORGE'S WINS THE EIGHTS.

Ideal weather and water conditions prevailed on Saturday for the Auckland Rowing Association's provincial championship regatta, held on the Tamaki Drive course. The programme comprised eight events, and included for the first time the interprovincial sights and the secondary school old boys' eights. Forty orews competed and comprised the best combinations of the province. The officials for the day wera:— Judges, Messrs. H. W. Hudson (president A.R.A.), G. R. Hogan, Prof. Algie, Messrs. J. R. Foster, C. H. Holloway (vice-presidents A.R.A.); A. C. Norden (A.R.A. representative); starter, Mr. S. H. Buchanan; umpire, Mr. P. Graham; clerk of scales, Mr. J. a Aitkin; chief marshal, Mr. M. 0. Stewart. There was a record attendance of spectators, who were able to follow the races from start to finish. The scene from the water was most picturesque, especially as the crowd raced along the roadway towards the finishing line. Most complete arrangements were made by the officials for the comfort of the spectators. The Ponsonby Boys Band enlivened proceedings with a bright musical programme that was much appreciated. The winning hste at the regatta were Auckland £19, Seale Cup and Hallyburton Johnetone Cup. Hamilton £14, Nash. Cup, Dewar Shield. When they settled down St George's took the lead, with Auckland second. In a good finish fat. George's finished first, with the others in the following order: Auckland, Waitemata, Hamilton No. 1, Mercer, Hamilton No. 2. JUNIOR FOURS (clinker boats), one mile and a half. First £8 and Seale Cup, second £2. Auckland—S. Scott (str), C. Chamberlain (3), J. McComish (2), R. Porter (1) 1 North Shore—F. J. Norris (str), J. S. Gardener (3), S. J. MeDougaU (2), W. J. Auckland soon forged ahead, followed by North Shore, Waitemata and Hamilton. These positions were maintained until three parts of the way across Hobson Bay, when Hamilton displaced Waitemata, and the crews raced in that order to the finishing line. HANDICAP SINGLE SCULLS, one mile. First £4 and Marshall Cup, second £1. I. C. Horton (St. George's), scr 1 D. Hare (Hamilton), 6s 2 R. G. Barker (Waitemata), 12s 3 Won by one lenth and a quarter, with two lengths between second and third. A most spectacular race, the boats being close until the last stages.

BIGHT-OAR CHAMPIONSHIP, two miles. First, Dr. Stuart Reid Cup. St. George's— J. R. H. Biss (8), G. Biss (7) K. D'Authreau (6), F. Solomon (5), A. C. Andrews (4), W. Williams (3), W. L. Carr (2), G. Brown (1) . 1 Hamilton did not finish. St. George's jumped the lead at the start, but off Orakei wharf Hamilton closed up. Off the Union Company's steamer St. George's opened up, and a little later Hamilton stopped, with a lot of water in their boat. St. George's, rowing nicely, went away an easy winner, GRAMMAR V. KING'S OLD BOYS, one mile. Grammar 1 King's 2 Won by one length. A good go to the Point, where Grammar forged ahead. In a hard run down the straight Grammar held out to win by one length. YOUTHS' FOURS, one mile. First £6, Nash Cup ; second, fl. Hamilton— J. Stuart (4), L. G. Keet (3), B. Peart (2), L. Pardington (1) 1 St. George's 2 Waitemata 3 Won easily by six lengths, with two lengths between second and third. Hamilton led throughout. MAIDEN FOURS, open weight, one mile. First £7 and Dewar Shield, second £2. Hamilton, No. I— J. Hurrell (4), C. Coachman (S), R. Remetis (2), G. Taylor (1) ~... 1 West End —M. Archer (4), C. Dunster (3), J. H. Donovan (2), N. W. The crews hung together well until off the second gap, when Hamilton forged ahead, with Auckland next. An exciting race to the line resulted In Hamilton No. 1 regaining the lead in the last few strokes to win by three feet. SENIOR FOURS, two miles. Also started: St. George's and Hamilton. Auckland took the lead from the start, and about the mile murk were half a length ahead of Hamilton. A few moments later Hamilton stopped and dropped out of the race.
