ALLEGED ADDICT.
MAHARANEE IN CUSTODY. CALCUTTA, February 2. Alleged to be a drug addict, the Maharanee of Mymensingh, an exceedingly handsome middle-aged woman, attempted to shoot the Maharajah in the palace. The Maharajah "ducked," and escaped with a scalp wound and the Maharanee was removed to a mental home. The police took charge of all firearms in the palace. • It is stated that India's best doctors have failed to cure the Maharanee during the past two years." After visits to Paris and Switzerland, the Maharanee returned to Calcutta six months ago, apparently cured. She began taking drugs again, however, and violent scenes occurred between husband and wife. During one of such scenes, it is alleged that she whipped out a revolver and fired at point blank range.
