LONDON, February 5. Despite 100,000 marchers and 150,000 spectators, rain, wind and the lack of organisation, turned a Hyde Park demonstration into a failure. The orators were inaudible at any distance owing to the absence of loudspeakers. Communists merely shouted slogans, and a crowd half-heartedly sang the "Red Flag." The gale blew many banners to ribbons in the processions, which were accompanied by bands, and converged on Hyde Park, the last arriving after the speeches, had terminated. Mr. George Lansbury, Leader of the Opposition, led the processio'n with other Labour members, and a resolution was passed protesting against wages cuts, the means test, and changes in the insurance scheme, and urged a 40-hour week, reversal of the economy policy, and a new trading agreement with Russia. Two arrests were made. Special constables took control of the traffic in London in the afternoon, releasing 15,000 police to control the march to Hyde Park.
