Building Society Scheme At Home. • "• . : • •- GOVERNMENT CO-OPERATES. (British Official Wireless.) ■; (Received 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, February 5. The Government . has approved, a scheme prepared by the National Association of Building Societies for increasing employment locally by advances to members of their 360 constituent societies for financing repairs, decorations and improvements to house property. Although the scheme was worked out by the. association, in consultation with. ,the Government, it is understood- that : tlere'will be no charge of any sort on the Exchequer. The Prime Minister, Mr. Mac Donald, ;in a letter, said that the improvements ■which it was thus sought to encourage would be at once the wisest forms of spending, and one of the most prudent investments at the present time. Money would be spent in a way to give an immediate stimulus to employment, and ha hopes the building societies' membprs and property owners -will regard the scheme not merely as an offer but as an opportunity for public service. j J
