SANDERS CUP.
THE SIXTH RACE. SECOND WIN TO AVALON. THREE BOATS ON TERMS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The sixth race for the Sanders Cup was sailed at Lyttelton this morning. At the end of the first round Avalon was leading by three seconds from Idler, with Avenger third. The result was:— Avalon (Otago), 12h 23m 9s 1 Lavina (Wellington), 12h 24m 2s .... 2 Avenger (Canterbury) 3 Idler (Auckland) 4 All the provinces except Auckland are now level with two victories apiece. Otago's victory this morning was; secured in light weather, Avalon crossing the line 60 seconds ahead of Lavina. Light and puffy airs were experienced throughout, suiting Avalon, and giving Ivan McGrath a chance to. show what he could do with her. He sent the yacht along at a great speed off the wind, and made only one doubtful manoeuvre, that of going in rather close to Diamond Harbour when beating up for the last time. He Jost little by this, however, but the Auckland skipper, who followed him in, was badly caught by a break in the wind. The seventh race will be started at 3 p.m. The previous five races resulted: — Wednesday.—Lavina (Wellington) 1, Avenger (Canterbury) 2, Idler (Auckland) 3, Avalon (Otago) 4. Thursday.—Morning: Avenger 1, Idler 2, Avalon 3, Lavina 4. Afternoon: Lavina 1, Avalon 2, Avenger 3, Idler 4. Friday.—Avalon 1, Idler 2, Avenger 3, Lavina 4. Saturday.—Avenger 1, Idler and Lavina, dead-heat, 2, Avalon 4.
