SOCIAL GATHERINGS. A flannel dance was given by the Takapuna Surf Club at the clubhouse, Takapuna Beach, on Saturday, when there were a large number of guests present. Dancing took place in the main room, which was attractively decorated with, multi-coloured streamers. Excellent music was supplied for dancing. Supper was served by a committee of ladies. • • • • A jolly dance -was held in the new parish hall at Cambridge on Thursday. Those present included: Mesdames Haworth, M. Wells, A. J. S. Richardson, A. Scott, Hulme, G. G. Bell, CampbellBoard, Pearse, Misses J. Hardy, M. Sutcliffe, W. Baker, D. Drew, J. Hulme, G. Brann, Cox, C. Willis, D. Veely, R. White, B. Lee, H. Dallimore, N. Armstrong, V Litckwark, S. Brann, E. Willis, L. Dallimore, M. Armstrong, J. Moorhouse, W. Hulme. » * » * A presentation was made to Mrs. E. C. Davey and' family on Saturday afternoon, on the occasion of her retirement from business. Representatives of the residents, the Waitemata Bowling Club, various sports bodies and other organisations gathered at the Northcote Hotel, where Mr. C. J. W. Taylor, a member of the Northcote Borough Council, and Messrs. M. J. Walsh, R. A. Johnston, A. S. Tarrant and - A. E. Greenslade expressed the community's appreciation of the generosity and public spirit of the family. Replies were made by Mrs. Davey and Mr. Huia Davey. * * * * A very enjoyable "At Home" was held at Fort Cautley, North Head, yesterday afternoon by the 13th Coast Battery, under'Captain'J. Lochart. Tea was served in the officers' mess, which was decorated with gaily-coloured flags and huge bowls' of dahlias. During the afterjlgon selections were played by the band. Among those present were the Mayor and Mayoress of Devonport, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. W. Meikle, Commander and Mrs. E. Lyon Berthon, Dr. Kenneth Gordon and Mrs. Gordon, Captain and Sirs. J. R..
