RESTORED TO LIFE.
MAN NEARLY DROWNED.
AMBULANCE MEN'S FEAT. The skill and persistence of two members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, Messrs. J. Nicholson and C. Storey, saved a man's life at Motuihi Island yesterday: A young man, Mr. J. Brown, of Otahuliu, was swimming on the channel side when he got into difficulties, and he was carried ashore unconscious by his friends. Messrs. Nicholson and Storey, who were stationed at Motuihi, were 'summoned, and after applying artificial .respiration on the beach they carried the unconscious man to their bach, about 100 yards away, and there continued their efforts. "When we started I despaired of reviving the man," said Mr. Nicholson later. "Gradually he began to show signs of returning consciousness. We knew then that we had a fair chance of success and we carried on for over an hour. After the young msn .had regained consciousness he was examined by a doctor, but his condition had much improved when he left for Auckland on the excursion steamer, arid he was able to return to his home.
