TAXIS TO RACES.
Race patrons will be surprised to learn that forty-six applications by taxi men to carry passengers to the Takapuma races on January 28 and 30 were refused by the No. " Authority. These licenses have always been, most readily granted on all former occasions) but this year, for some reason, the No, 2 Authority has denied us the right to this very vital part of our livixg. Considering that the various forms of taxation, paid by us amount to over £20 per annum each, and that w® count very much upon these holiday occasions to .pay our way, I think you will agree that the treatment Ave have received is harsh ana unaccountable. Our patrons are all Auckland people who expect to find our cars awaiting •their convenience when they cross over to Devonport en route to the races, and will be more than enough traffic for the Nort Shore people to cater for. „ DAILY BREAD.
