followed the two leaders to the straight, with Great Star, Red Heckle, Fiji, Tout le Mond and Rocket next. Royal Artist and Fiji were the leading pair half a furlong from the post, where Antique was putting in great work. Royal Artist hung on to win by a short neck from Antique, who beat Fiji in the last stride by a short head. Jaloux was three lengths away fourth, with Refresher, Great Star, Retract, Rocket, and Tout le Mond next. Red Heckle was twelfth, failing to run on in the straight, Concentrate fifteenth, and Juniper the last home. Merry Peel never showed up, while Gold Trail faded out a long way from home. The winner was in the middle of the field in the early stages, and made his effort in the last five furlongs. He was never off the rails. Antique's performance was that of a good horse, as he had to cover a lot of ground round the home turn. Rocket missed the jump out, and, after making up ground at the far turn, could make no impression on the leaders in the straight. Jaloux was well placed all the way, but met some trouble five furlongs from home.

Close Finish. There was another great finish in the Anniversary Handicap. Ruling Light and Drumfire were out clear after two furlongs, with Gold Pit, Chief, Tahoma, Awaken and Wise Choice also prominent. There was no great change to the home turn, but when the straight was reached this lot was bunched. Ruling Light, ridden very confidently, won by a neck from Tahoma, who got up to beat Drumfire by a head. Shatter was only a neck away, his performance being impressive, as he came from a long way back. Martian Chief f<wht out the finish gamely. fJ'i'shivn: and will win soon. Rational 11., Richfield, Wise Choice and Ranelagh were in the next bunch. The winner put up a solid performance all the way.

Autopay's TelegrapU, Several horses were fractious at the barrier in the Telegraph Handicap. Golden Wings, Grecian Prince and The Tiger being hopelessly left. Souchong was smartest out and well clear reaching the course proper, where Autopay, Pomp, Orapai and The Quorn were also prominent. Autopay took the lead at the distance, winning decisively by a length, while Souchong stalled off Pomp by a head. Lordlv Knight and Orapai were next. Cricket Bat, from near outside, began well, but drifted back after three furlongs. Autopay's performance was good, and he is back to his best form. Souchong is brilliant, but does not stay well. The Quorn never looked" dangerous. Wasteland, Slippery, Navaho and Zeebrugge led to the course proper in the Ruapehu Handicap, with Solitare 11., Hula Belle and Chief Light handy. Zeebrugge and Hula Belle were in the lead 50 yards from the post, Hula Belle stalling off' Chief Light by a neck with Zeebrugge a head away. Nebulae, Slippery, Navaho, Solitaire 11., Grand Review and Idolize were close up. Hula Belle is a smart sprinter and liable to win in open company soon.
