FULL SUSTENANCE.
REQUEST TO GOVERNMENT. MEETING AT NEW LYNN. A crowd of about 700 attended.& public meeting of protest convened by the Provincial Unemployed Workers Association, at the Delta Theatre, New Lynn, last night. The Mayor,, MrGeorge Lawson, presided, and on the platform were the following speakers \-~ Messrs. H. Smith, L. Cecil, Richards, M.P., Barnes and F. E. Lark, president of the Provincial Unemployed Workers Association. , Mr. Smith, in dealing with the "go-slow" policy, and rent strike, law the charge o£ theSe at the door of . Government inasmuch as through. their sustenance reducing methods, men were unable to perform the same amount o work as formerly, also that, owing the recent cut, relief workers found l impossible to pay more than 5/ per wee rent. Mr. Cecil dealt with the Avondale t* clamation scheme, and stressed the poi that, in turning this down, the GoY er " ment proved that they were not since when they asked for constructive assi ance from the people. _ ■ Mr. Richards claimed that the y ernment had completely failed to effectively with the unemployment 1 U tion. Mr. Lark said that the set purpo of the Government seejn'ed to be to cr the people down to the lowest possi level. -j The following resolution was p , unanimously:—"ln view of the ' ne tive methods adopted by the o ment to deal with the unemploym® problem, and the disastrous con i that have resulted, we, the New Lynn and those present from districts, recommend the _ put into force at once the full sus . clause provided for in the UnemP ment Act, and, if necessary, JMW«g payments to allow the unemploy live as decent citizens and mee ., g financial obligations and provi decent living for themselves an ? families."
