UNEMPLOYMENT.
ABSENCE FROM WORK. DISPOSAL OF FUNDS. RULING BY BOABD. The Jnemployment Board has ktued instructions that when No. 5 scheme workers go off the unemployment register to private work the money allocated to districts for those men for the'week affected must remain unexpended and.be returned to the board. '.The board insists that the"; funds mtist on no account be diverted to jprbvide additional work for other' scheme 5 men. It stipulates also that when men do not turn up on scheme 5 -jobs on their due days, the money allocated folr tliern for that day, or days, must be returned and not used, except in case "! sickness of the worker, to give work later in the week, or for additional work for other men.
To encourage men to accept private work where such is available for more than 14 days, and the remuneration is greater than that obtained under scheme 5, the board suggests the requalifying period of 14 days set out in scheme 5 rules might be reduced at the discretion of the certifying officer to not less than one week. •
