BIRTH RATE DECLINE. FEWER DEATHS AND MARRIAGES. Auckland's vital statistics for lha calendar year 19:52 show a general decline on the returns for 103k Registrations of births, 2435, lagged behind the figures for the previous year by 359 and showed a decline of nearly 32 per cent on the registrations for the peak year of 1920, when the total reached 3582. The 1932 result, also, gives a figure lower than that for any other year since the war. Deaths fell by 70 from 1953 in 1931. According to the monthly returns, mortality was highest in winter and spring, the average for the five months from May to September being 181, in commrisoii with the monthly average of 150 over the entire 12 months.
