SHARK PROOF ENCLOSURES.

Referring to the report of the recent visitation of sharks to Stanley Bay, and in vie* of the fact that sharks are seen in the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours every summer, steps should 'be taken to .provide ample protection for bathers at all the popular beaches against the possibility of their being food for sharks. The local bodies should erect sharkproof enclosures. There are plenty of relief workers available, and the work could be financed by the Unemployment Board; It would be far more useful and valuable than much of the work now being done by relief workers.- Swimmers should be able to feel that they may enjoy a swim in comfort without the constant risk of being attacked by a shark. The risk is a real one both to children and adults, and the common-sense course to adopt is to remove it as speedily as possible. SAFETY.
