BARRATT CUP. ANOTHER POSTPONEMENT. CREWS FOR TAURANGA. For the second time this season the Barratt Cup inter-club contest was postponed, and the race will have to be rowed after the holiday season. The racing had only started with thj trial four heats, but as drew after ere* swamped, and a couple of clubs withdrew, the only reasonable course under tne circumstances was adopted and the event de A?i re club trial racing has been euspendea until' after the New Tear holidays. The first of the season's provincial regatta aj: Tauranga takes place on -Boxing ■ Day,,ana splendid entries have been received for nil events except the senior fours. The. entries total 58 crews, the light maiden fours claiming nine, heavy maidens eight* the junior and youths fours seven crews apiece. No opportunity has ottered tOjR I **.* guide of the crews' prospects, the only chance that promised being spoilt by rough water. It is, however, perfectly safe to predict some hard and close racing, ana visitors rto the East Coast township shouia witness very'interesting contests. A further attraction will be the Somerville Shield eight-oar challenge race, when Tauranga, holders of the trophy, -will meet the challengers, Hamilton. ■ Last year tne Tauranga crew created a surprise bj oefeating Hamilton who had held the shleia for several years. All the harbour club cretfs are putting in very solid training for Tauranea, the crews being afloat both mornings and evenings. Good water conditions have been enjoyed. The crews in general are in; much better form than usual, for the opening regatta, and the spectators should enjoy This time' the crews will have the benefit of a night's rest before th 6 regatta, instead of as in previous years arriving there in the early hours of regatta day.
