MELANESIAN MISSION. £2500 RAISED IN ENGLAND. CHARTERING OF SHIPS. Advice lias been received in Auckland that as a result of an appeal launched by the Archbishop of York for £5000 for the Melah«sian Mission, £2500 was collected in ten days. This amount has been forwarded to assist in the cost of chartering ships to carry on the Melanesian Mission work pending the building of a new vessel to replace the wrecked Southern Cross. It is proposed to build a new mission steamer in England, and it should be ready about the middle of next year. There is the possibility, however, that a steamer will be bought if one can be found.
