LAND LEASED.
CLOSER SETTLEMENT. NORTHERN WAIROA COAST. FIFTY-ACRE SECTIONS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. The Government has acquired for closer settlement purposes 2350 acres of coast country, which is being subdivided into 50 acre sections. The land purchased comprises GOO acres from the estate of Mr. Bassett, near Te Ivopuru, and 1750 acres from Mr. J. A. Wilson, at Bayly's Coast, near Dar°aville. The Government is also negotiating for an. educational reserve of 230 acres which adjoins Mr. Bassett's property.
The properties have been t*ken on a ten-year lease with the right ofi purchase. The Government will place contracts immediately for the ploughing o 500 acres on both blocks. On W llsons block four miles of subdivisional road is to be constructed, running north and south and connecting at the southern end through Harding's Aoroa Wociv with the county roads. Wilsons blocK for about two miles fronts the IJaiga-ville-Bayly's West Coats main highway. The western boundary of both properties is the ocean beach. The land is said to be eminently suitable for the purpose of small holdings. It is almost entirely free from frost and has good soil of a sandy nature, which can be worked all the year round. It is well watered with streams and lakes.
The cost price is said to be in the vicinity of £3 10/ an acre.
