BUILDING CONTROL.

LEGISLATION* AMENDED. PERSONNEL OF COMMITTEE. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Tlie enlargement of the personnel of tho proposed Building Committee, to provide greater representation for architects, and the abandonment of clerk or works requirements, are the features of amendments to the Building Construction Bill circulated by the Government last night. Provision is made for the inclusion on tho committee of a Government architect, and a registered architect and for the optional appointment of a registered engineer by tho Counties' Association. Additional appointments will ibe made of two registered engineers in the service of borough councils, each of whom will | be appointed on the recommendation of the Mayors of at least two boroughs, each having a population of over 50,000, and of one person with practical experience in building construction, appointed on the recommendation of the Builders and Contractors' Association.

In addition to deleting provisions respecting the appointment of clerks of works, the amendments remove the indemnity it was proposed, to give local bodies against claims for damages arising out of loss of plans, and to make the Minister of Public Works responsible for making good the loss if plans are lost or destroyed, 'before ibeing returned to tie office of the local authority.

Power is given also for the exclusion by regulation of specified classes of 'building from liability for the special permit fee.
