STRATFORD LINE.

FOR GOODS TRAFFIC.

SERVICE NEXT MONDAY.

BOARD'S ANNOUNCE MENT.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day.l "Although it will be some time before the newly-laid portion of the recentlyopened Stratford Main Trunk railway will be ready for taking over by the Railway Department the Railways Board has decided to work goods traffic over the new route as from Monday, December 12," said the chairman of the board, Mr. H. H. Sterling, in a statement today.

"Before the new line is ready to be worked as an integral part of the system, under direct control of the board, a considerable amount of work will have to be done by the Railway Department at Stratford and Okahukura junctions, and there is still much to be done on the Public Works' section of the line. It is not therefore possible for a regular passenger service to be inaugurated immediately.

"In conclusion," said Mr. Sterling, "I cannot too strongly emphasise that the completion of this line was regarded by the board as being a work that could be justified only if the line, when completed, were to be assured of full support by the public, and the board trusts that all the line is now available for the transport of goods the people concerned will see that the fullest possible use is made of it."
