PAPATOETOE SPORTS.

MISS BAIRD CRASHES.

Rain again marred the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club's sports, which were held on Saturday at the Papatoetoe Stadium. Miss V. Baird lowered her own record for the half-mile ladles' unpaced standing start, of 1.19 3-5, by 1 3-og, making the record now 1.18, but when attempting to lower her one mile pacrd record the rider caught her front wheel in the rear wheel of her pacer and crashed on fourth lap. She escaped with several bruises nnd abrasions The flying lap record (I-β mili>) was lowered by M. P. Byrnes (Manukau) to 18 4-os. beating l>. 11. Dwighfs record by 3-5s The trophy for this record is competed for at every open meeting held on the track. • Dwlght later reduced his record to 18 3-ss, thus beating Brynes , time of 18 4-ss, and retaining the trophy. Mr Roger Cameron gave an exhibition half-mile walk, which he finished in 3.51 3-5.

'VARSITY RELAYS.

LOVELOCK "FLIES" FOR OXFOKD. LONDON, December 4. The annutil inter-University relay races were run on Saturday. Cambridge won the 400 yards, the mile, the 480 yards, the hijrh iiurdles and the two miles. _ . Watt (New Zealand) ran for Oxford, which won the half-mile (which was declared void owing to doubtful measurements), the low hurdles and the four miles. Lovelock (New Zealand) sat for an examination early in the morning and was flown to the course, and ran a great last lap in the four miles, winning Dy 60 yards.
