BOXING.
TECHNICAL COLLEGE. ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. The preliminary bouts in the Seddon Memorial Technical College's annual boxing championships were decided at the Drill Hall to-day. The finals will be staged at the Assembly Hall on Saturday night. Mr. H. P. Leeves, the gymnastic instructor, is organiser for the tournament, while Mr. Geo. Bush (president of the Northern Boxing Association) is referee. To-day's results:— MOSQUITO WEIGHT (5.10 and under). First Series.—Mathews beat Tonks. MIDGET WEIGHT (under 6.7). First Series.—Lund beat Williams; Barclay heat Darwill; Burnett beat Button; Newton beat Hirst. Second Series.—Lund beat Barclay; Newton heat Barnett: Bassett beat Williams ; Thomas beat Burton. PAPER WEIGHT (7.0 ana under). First Series.—Richards beat Aitkman ; Clark beat I'liilpott. Second Series.—Clark beat Richards; Shilling beat Davidson ; Fuller beat Brown ; Negus beat Scobic. FLYWEIGHT (7.10 and under). First Series.—Sykes beat Twoedie; Chateris, beat Evans; Bowrey beat Nelson. Second Series.—Chateris beat Sykes; Bowrey beat Bridsou; Ke'rr beat Black; Bear- boat Nicholson. BANTAM-WEIGHT, 8.2 and under. First Series.—Tetley beat Fry, Bundock beat Armitage, Geddes beat Wilkes. FEATHER-WEIGHT, 9.0 and under. First Series.—Hiscocic beat Tait. LIGHTWEIGHT (1010 and under). First Series.—Sutherland beat Mancy ; Pickering beat Nolan : Stevens boat Borlch. The above constituted the complete programme of preliminaries. THE GYMNASTIC TITLES. WALKER AND ALEXANDER WIN. At the Technical College annual gymnastic championships. 15 boys who wore successful in gaining top marks in the recent inter-house competition entered for championship honours. Eight competed in the senior event. W. Wnlker (Hindley House), with a total of 733 points, being the winner. W. Stevenson (Seddon House) was second with 653 points. From an entry of seven juniors, A. Alexandra (Hindley House) gninpd first place with 49 J poiuts. K. Abbott (Seddon House), with 40J points, was an even closer runner-up than in the senior oveut. The competitors were judged by Mr. T. P. Laffey in all parts of apparatus work. He congratulated the boys upon the high standard of work shown, and also gave them advice which should prove of value to them in their gymnastic careers.
