BESSEMER STEEL.
Great New English Works to Be Erected. BID FOR INDEPENDENCE. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, November 30. Great new English works are about to be erected at Corby, Northamptonshire, at a. cost of * £3,300,000, for the purpose of restarting the manufacture of basic Bessemer steel. The works are being erected by Stewart, Lloyd, Ltd. Bessemer steel was originally manufactured in Britain, which is now dependent upon America and other foreign producers. It is hoped that Stewart, Lloyd's will enable Britain to regain her independence. As a result of the Ottawa Conference, an American company operating in Canada has ordered 1,000,000 boxes of tin plates.
