FREE LABOUR ENGAGED.
ACTION AT PICTON , WORKS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, this day. When the Picton freezing works opened this morning there was no reeponse to the call for labour. Union officiate were warned that after a further call the company would take steps, if neceesary, to start the work 3 with free labour. A second call was made at 9 o'clock without response, and the engagement of free labour began. Meantime, the permanent staff is killing stock already penned. It is expected that the first batch of non-union labour will enter the works to-day. • Farmers' organisations generally are strongly supporting the company's action.
