FIRE DAMAGE.
PLANTATION SWEPT. CROWN SUES FARMER. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. An interesting case came before Mr. Justice Ostler in the Supreme Court to-day, when the extent of the damage caused by a fire in the State plantation at Hanmer last year was the subject of litigation. The action was between the Crown, as plaintiff, and Frederick James Savill, of Hanmer Springs, farmer. The claim set out that, on Ootober 30, 1931, defendant started a fire on his property, the St. Helens station. The lire spread to the State plantation, and approximately 67 acres of trees were destroyed. As a result £487 was claimed. Defendant admitted the facts and liability. The question of amount ■was for the Court to decide. Defendant had paid £150 into Court. The case is proceeding. _-~,; L .
