FREEZING DISPUTE.

NEW TERMS IN CANTERBURY. tTNTON MEN NOT WORKING. ONE HUNDRED OUT AT ISLINGTON. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. New terms and conditions were enforced at Canterbury freezing, works to-day, and as a result no union men except firemen and greasers accepted work this morning at the New Zealand Refrigerating Company's' ' w#rks at Islington. No call was made for free , labour.

Work was carried on as usual at Borthwick and Sons' works and at tlie Canterbury Frozen Meat works, which are both at Belfast. A majority of the men at these two places are permanent hands, and little killing was carried out. A total of 10P. men are involved at Islington. NO CHANGE IN AUCKLAND. UNION MEETING YESTERDAY. There was little prospect of the position being changed in the near future, stated the secretary of the Butchers and Slaughtermen's Union, Mr. W. E. Sill, at a meeting which -was held in the Trades Hall yesterday. Tho president, Mr. H. Coulton, presided. The men expressed general satisfaction with the present position of the freezing works dispute. Mr. Sill, who returned to Auckland yesterday morning after attending the unsuccessful conference with the employers in Wellington last Tuesday, presented a report of the conference. The report I was adopted. Subsequent to the meeting, Mr. Sill said that no complaints had been made by the men, and also that no move for settlement of. the dispute ■ had been made.

When the Tainui sailed from Gieborna on Saturday her cargo from this port included no frozen meat, watersides having offered no facilities for loading a email consignment which was shut out of the Tekoa recently, and which it was intended to ship to London. The meat was last season's killing, having been handled entirely with union labour. >
