"MYSTERY" VOYAGE.
DUCHESS GOES TO WAIHEKE. Over 400 excursionists had a pleasant trip to Waiheke Island the. steamer Duchess yesterday. It was a "mystery" voyage, the ship's destination being , •unknown to the excursionists until she neared her destination. Off Matiatia Heads two shots were fired across the I>ueiiess' bows from a launch, and the ship was hove-to. A quaintly-dressed "pirate" came on board and had a comic altercation with Captain Waim. ' The skipper pushed the intruder overboard, but the latter had left his sealed orders. It was then known that Omiha was the port of call. From here the passengers had an enjoyable tramp through lovely bush scenery across the island to Matiatia, where they embarked for home. The trip was voted a complete success.
