WAKATEBE 14>FOOTERS. OPENING "OF THE SEASON. In spite of the fresh north-easterly breeze which kicked up quite a big sea on Narrow Neck Beach on Saturday, the opening race of the Wakatere li-i'oit onti-deelgu class was sailed. Eleven heats started for a special prize, which was won by B. Csoyden's Wainui, well sailed by N. Wing.

At 2 p.m., when the patron of the' club, Mr. J. Hislop, was present, the breeze was very hard and a breaking.sea made it almost impossible to launch the boats. It was decided, unless conditions improved, to put the races off and one or two competitors left the beach. At 3 p.m. conditions improved and it was decided to race for a special prize offered by Mr. Wilkinson.

The course was a short one of three rounds, starting and finishing off the centre of the beach, between a mark and ■ the shore. .

Whirlwind was first away at 3.45 p.m., closely follewed by Wakatere, Wahine, Wainui, Wairiki and the others close together. On the first round Wainui took the lead and was never headed, Wahine ..being second. The finish was: Wainui, 4h 15m 295, 1 ; Wahine, 4h 17m 10s, 2 ; Waikiri, 4h 17m 255, 3. Whirlwind, 4h 20m 15s; Waimarle, 4h 21m ss: Wanderer , , 30s; Weona, 4h 22m 30s also finished. Xo boat tfapsize'd. but three returned with their rudder pintles carried away in the heavy sea. The Richardson Cup was postponed until Saturday, November 26.

RICHMOND CRUISING CLUB. RACE TO ISLINGTON. BAY. The Richmond Cruising Club held a race on Saturday to Islington Bay, nine yachts starting off the Western wharf at 3 o'clock. The starters were: . Matarere, Mawmu, Marianne, Drone, Paroro, scr; Avro, Matariki, 3m; Ranui, 4m ; Phaola, 3Om. The fresh n'or'-easterly breeze gave the bouts a close haul all the way to the mouth, of Islington Bay, and a beat up the bay to the finishing line off the Quarry wharf. Phaola was first away,, followed bv Mawhiti, Matarere, and the others close Up. Off Devonport wharf Matnreve was the leading boat. She pont.laucd to lead until beating up the bay,. when her lib sheet carried away, and Marianne passed her. MODEL YACHTING. PONSONBY CLUB'S CHAMPIONSHIPS. /The Ponsonby Model Yacht Club held two championship races and two handicap events over, the week-end. The course was in bt. Marv's Bay boat -harbour, nnd a triangular test was set the: small craft, which were favoured with a steady sou'-west breeze. Bullct.'tho holder of the Winter Cup as 4ft champion, had her title challenged by Ilono. Rona, Irene and Bessie J. All got away to a perfect, start, and the finish was : Rona (W. T. Matthews). 41i 42m .10*. winner: Hono (W. Clare), 4h 43m.105, and Bessie ,T. (T. Ireland), 4h 44m 40h, finished in this order. Irene and Bullet. retired, the latter .carrying away her main boom when lying second. Three-foot Championship.—ln ■ the race •for the Victoria Trophy for this class, Ida successfully defended her title, the race being timed: Ida (W. T. Matthews), fill 10m 30s, winner: Spray (T. Ireland). 5h lflm 10s, and Wairiki (J. Speight), 5h 21m 255. Restless retired. Four-foot Handicap.—The starters, which were sent off in the order of their handicaps, were: liullet. scr. : Rona, lm ; Hono, uin ; Irene, 4:i>. and Enterprise, 7m. Mr. C. 3. Colllnffs' Mullet, sailed by T. Brown, did well on the beat home, and the finish was: Bullet, 3h 22m 445, 1; Ilono (W. Clare), 3h 24m 3Gs, 2; Rona (W. T. Matthews), 3h 25m 4s, 3. Enterprise, Mr. R. Murphy's 40-year-old model, sailed by A. Crocket, finished at 3h 25ni 40s. Three-foot Handicap.—The starters were : Spray, ser. : Margie, 2m ; Wairiki, Dark Horse and Sydney, sm; Restless and Syren. 14m. It was a very close finish between Spray and Wairiki. The latter led to 50yds from the line, when Spray headed her to win by 18s. The finish was: Spray (T. Ireland), 4h Cm Is, 1; Wniriki (J. Speight). 4h Gm 14s, 2; Syren (H. Eriekson), 4h Dm 455, 3, ORAKEI BASIN CLUB. OPENING OP THE SEASON. The Orakel Basin Model Yacht .Club opened its racing season on Saturday, when two general handicaps were sailed by club boats in the presence of a number of interested spectators. The first race,- sailed across the Basin, attracted 14 starters, nil club boats. The result wns:—Twilight (M. Beetson) ser 1. nnns! rw. Cole) 20s 2, Monarch (R. Jensen) scr. and Enterprise (K. McDonald) 255, dead lient. third.

The second race, sailed over a triangular pourse. resulted in ni'otlier win for Twilight, with Aornngi (G. Bevins) 10s 2, and Monarch (R. Jensen) 60s third.

STANUKATT MODEL CLUB. SECOND SERIES OF RACES. The Manukau Senior Model Yacht Club held two raeps on Saturday the first being for club members and the other open to all. The wind, which blew at sale force, made matters very uncomfortable for the small craft which necessitated small sails. The entries and handicaps in the first race were: Clematis 19m, Bennett 14m, Lucky Girl 7m, Clyde 6m, Gladys 4m, Ace and Peloris scratch. Result: Pilot, 4h 2m, 1 : Clyde, 4h 20m 355, 2. These were the only boats that finished.

For the second race the entries were: Grundy 6m, Fleetwing 4m, Huia 4m, Lucky Girl 3m, Venice 2m. White Heather lm. The result: White Heather, 5h 16m 3s, 1: Lucky Girl, 5h 23m 10s, 2'; Venice, 5h 39m, 3.
