CYCLING.
PAPATOETOE STADIUM. In addition to the school children's events, decided by the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club on Saturday several cycling events were conducted. The sprint events provided exciting finishes. They were over one lap only, and as the track is only one-sixth of a mile round fast movement was witnessed. Sprint champion Hen. R. Dwight was seen at his best, and appeared to have little difficulty in outsprinting veteran V. 3. Casey. The events resulted as follow: —
One Mile Novice. —L. Jones (90yds) 1, J H Castell (60yds) 2, O. White (40yds) 3 G. W. Clark (50yds) 4. Time, 2.21 1-5. One Mile Open.—First heat: S. J. Baird (50yds) 1, B. D. Morris (120 yds) 2, G. Jones (00yds) 3, B. D. Andrews, (60yds) 4. Time, 2.14 4-5. Second heat: L. Jones (150 yds) 1, J. G. Morris (110 yds) 2, R. Gallagher (140 yds) 3, I. C. Bellini (60yds) 4. Time, 2.18 4-5. Final: I. C. Bellini 1, E. D. Morris 2, S. J. Baird 3, G. Jones 4. Time, 2.21. Won by inches.
Sprint Match Races. —H. R. Dwight beat F. J. Casey In 25 4-ss; J. H. Castell beat J. G. Morris in 265, C. Harris beat R. L. Francis, 27 2-os, G. W. Clark beat It. Gallagher in 25 4-ss, B. D. Andrews beat D N. Pinfold in 26 2-ss. In his finish with Andrews, -Pinfold broke his handle-bar and narrowly averted a spill.
