TWO METROPOLITAN MEETINGS.

CANTERBURY AND AUCKLAND. NEW ZEALAND AND MITCHELSON CUPS. THREE CLASSIC EVENTS TO BE DECIDED. For years prior to 1927 the Canterbury Jockey Club's spring carnival and. the Auckland Racing Club's spring fixture opened on the same date, but the latter body then decided to hold their meeting in October so as not to clasTi with the Riccarton fixture. However, this season the Auckland Racing Club reverted to their original November dates, and now the two meetings are held simultaneously,' but whereas there are only two days at Ellerslie, there are four at Riccarton. The Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting, at which the New Zealand Cup and other important races are decided, including several classics, will be followed with interest by patrons of the sport locally, but their attention to-morrow and Monday will be principally centred at Ellerslie, where an excellent afternoon's sport is promised.
