SUPERANNUATION.

GOVERNMENT PROPOSALS. STRONG AUCKLAND PROTEST. EVIDENCE NEXT WEEK. Strong protest was made at a meeting of the Auckland Superannuated Public Servants' Association yesterday against the Superannuated Funds Bill. It was decided to ask members of Parliament to urge the Government not to repudiate a contract with a large body of ex-servants of the State, or cause them to suffer for extravagances of the past. It was further decided to urge members of Parliament to insist that the Government should honour its a-jree-ment with the public servants.

The secretary reported that 450 new members had joined in the past three weeks. Advice has been received that the Select Committee of the House of Re-! presentatives, appointed to take evidence on the Amendment Bill, will commence to take evidence next week. Mr. J. A. Nash, MJ. for Palmerston, has been appointed chairman of the committee, and the taking of evidence will be of a comprehensive nature. Railwaymen's Case. Mr. J. Elliott, executive officer of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, and a member of the Railways Superannuation Board, left for Wellington by this afternoon's express. He said that the A.S-R-S. Council was holding its sessions in Wellington, commencing next Monday, and the evidence on behalf of the railwaymen would probably be tendered before the Committee of the House on Wednesday or Thursdav.
