BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

PARLIAMENT TO RISE CENTRAL BANK LEGISLATION. STATEMENT BY MR. FORBES. (By TeJegrapl.—Parliamentary Eeporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The definite opinion is now held by the Prime Minister that it ■will be possible to complete the business of this Parliamentary session before the Christmas holidays.

Mr. Forbes said last night that practically all of the Government's major policy measures, with the exception of the Central Reserve Bank Bill," were now before Parliament, and the remaining legislative items were not of outstanding importance. "We know what we * have to deal with, and if necessary the pace can be accelerated once we get into December," he added. "It is the r intention of the Government to make every effort to fimgh by Christmas. We don't want to come back in the Xew Year." Replying to questions concerning the proposed hanking legislation, Mr. Forbes said the Central Reserve Bank Bill was still in the course of drafting, and until I Cabinet received the completed draft | the question whether or not it would be necessary to refer the measure to a select committee for the hearing of evi- j deuce would not be considered. In all j probability the bill would be presented] before the return of Mr. Downie Stewart, although it-was not intended thatit should go through all its stages until the Finance Minister was back in his place in the House. If Mr. Stewart had any 'modifications to propose, these be incorporated when the bill was committee. _
