SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The president, Mrs. A. Campbell, I occupied the chair at the Northcote Plunket committee. The duties of treasurer will bo undertaken by the secretary, Mrs. J. "VV. Letlibridge, until the annual meeting. Thanks were conveyed to the Birkenhead Transport Company for free conveyance of the Plunkefc Nurse in the 'Birkenhead, district.. T}ie St. Andrew's Literary and Dramatic; Club,-Otahuhu, presented two playsto a good house last Tuesday evening. In the, first, "Admiral Peters," the parts were taken by Messrs W. H. Pinkey, W. M Morton, sen., and Miss M. Pinkey. The roles in tho second play, "Ici on parle Francais," were filled by Mr. W. N. Ingram, Miss G. Neilson, Miss Cassie Cook, Miss Jean Payne, Mr. G. Patrick \V. Morton, jun., and Miss C. Gardiner. Items -were given by Misses E. Moffatt, A. Clark, Messrs A. Sutcliffe and H. Andrew. Hiss E. Moffatt was the accompanist.

The Bay&watcr-Belmont Women's Society held a -meeting at the clubhouse, Bayswater, 'when Mrs. F. E.. N. Gaudin presided. 1 The speaker for the afternoon was Mr. R. The Rev. T. H.'C. Partridge presided at a successful "At Home," organised by the Papatoetoe Branch of the St. Mary s Homes' Association, in aid of the funds, which was held in the Public Hall, Papatoetoe, yesterday afternoon. An enjoyable programme was arranged by Mrs. Bewes and Mrs. Pawson. It included violin solos by Miss Hesketh, songs by Miss Gwenda Weir and Mrs. King, and elocutionary items by Mrs. J. Allen. Mother. Hannah gave »an instructive address 011 the care of.the children in the homes. The cake, produce and flower stalls were in the hands of Mesdames W. Cutforth, J. Trimble, .T. Daisley, and Misses A. In order to raise funds for the produce stall a t the annual sale of work of the Selwyn Ladies' Anglican Guild, which is to be held shortly, Mrs. W. W. Massey and Miss B. Timms gave a progressive bridge and 500 evening at M r ®- Massey's residence, Buck-land Road. Mangere East, last night, when there was an attendance of about forty players. Prizes for bridge were won by Mrs. Burns and Mr. K. Chapman, while Mrs. A. Henwood and Mr. J. Clark were the successful 500 players. Among those present were: Mesdames W. A. Key, F. G. A plain and fancy dress masquerade hall was held in the King's Theatre at Northcote on Wednesday evening under the auspices of St. Mary s Roman Catholic Social Club. The ladies committee responsible for the arrangements were:—Mesdames E. G. Bailey, JACoyle, M. Rowles, A. J. Lennon, Misses Ruby Gifford, Vera Nick alls, E. Neben, K. Donalioe, Zelma Sampson and Monica Healey. Mesdames D. P. O'Leary and C. Snow officiated as hostesses. -Lhe costumes were judged by Mr. and M. rs - B. Miss Daisy Shepherd, a foundation member, was entertained by the members of the Waitemata Croquet Club, of which She was also elected a life member, in view of her departure from Birkenhead to reside at Milford.

; A charming party was given "last week-end by Mrs. E. Gordon Eraser, of Remuera, in honour of the birthday of her daughter, Gabrielle. The hostess received her guests in wine satin, relieved with pearls. Among the guests were: Mesdamcs H. Newton, S. Rice, Charles Loufeson, M.-Williams, D. McGarry, W. Batty, Misses Gabrielle Fraser, Jean Ormiston, Phyllis Biss, Hilaire Biss, Ngaire Adams, Mary Walker, Veronica Bagey, Reta Waters.

To mark the closing of a series of bridge evenings held during the winter, the final was held at the residence of Mrs. Stretton, "Parawai," Stanley Bay, on Thursday. The prizes for the year were won by Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Donaldson. The prizes for the evening were won by Mrs. McMasters, jun., and Mrs. McMasters, sen. The cardroom was fragrant with the scent from large bowls of roses. Among those present were: Mesdamcs McMastcrs (2), Donaldson, Bush, Jones, Airey, Hayward, Hill, Anderson, Richards, Lacklands, Hughes, Fisher, Burgin, Wellor, Misses King (2), Burgin, and McMasters.

In aid of funds for the forthcoming bazaar of the Ponsonby Sacred Heart Church, a successful card afternoon was held at the tearoom of John Court's, Limited, yesterday afternoon. Deep blue curtains, bowls of golden and blue irises, with slender vases of poppies made an effective and attractive decoration. The prize winners were: Mrs. Empen, for 500, and Mrs. R.'
