GUN-RUNNING.
Reported Importation of Arms. SHIPMENTS FROM RUSSIA? (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 3. The "Daily Mail" states that the Dominions Secretary, Mr. J. H. Thomas, is to be asked in the House of Commons whether quantities of arms are being imported into South Ireland from Russia. The newspaper recalls that there have been repeated reports of gun-running on wild stretches of the Cork and Kerry coasts, the Irish Republican Army to replenish its secret "dumps." Strength is lent to these reports by British destroyers stopping vessels bound for Irish ports, also by the recent inquiries of the Civic Guards.
It is suspected that arms are shipped from Russia and transferred on the high seas to a vessel going to Ireland, says "The Mail," but the authorities declare that no proof has been obtained.
In the House of Commons, the Dominions Secretary, Mr. J. H. Thomas, when asked whether he was aware that quantities of arms were being imported into the Irish Free State from Russia, said that the importation of any arms to any Dominion was a question for the Government concerned.
