TO THE GRANITES.
Private Offer to Build Railway Received. MINISTER'S REPLY. (Beceived 11.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, this day. The Minister of the Interior, Mr. J. A. Parkhill, received an offer from an unnamed engineer to construct a railway from Alice Springs to the Granites goldfields if the land for the track was made available, the builders to receive the profits for 15 years, after which the line would revert to the Government. The Minister says that although the field is extensive and the prospects hopeful, financial and other considerations make the suggested railway construction doubtful.
