TRANSPORT APPEALS.
SITTING AT THAMES. COMPETITION WITH RAILWAY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES SOUTH, this day. The Transport Appeal Board sat at Thames yesterday, Mr. Justice Frazer (chairman) presiding. The other members of the hoard were Messrs. L. Aldtfton and T. Jordan. Mr. J. A. Gilmour was secretary to the board. Mr. G. T. Wilson, district manager, represented the Railway Department. Mr. H. J. Knight, of the White Star services, represented the appellants, the WaihiPaeroa Transport Company, wly) appealed against the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority's decision to delete the 12.45 p.m. trip from Waihi to Paeroa and the 2.30 p.m. trip from Paeroa to Waihi. The Railway Department submitted that this service was in direct competition with the railways, and the licensing authority considered the district sufficiently served. After the hearing of evidence the appeal was allowed, the Railways Board to pay costs. An appeal against a ban on the midday trip from Thames to Paeroa was also heard. The Waihi-Paeroa Transport Company appealed against a decision in favour of T. H. Roe, owner of the Hikutaia-Thames service. After hearing a number of witnesses, the Appeal Bpard held that there was no difference between this and the previous appeal, and it allowed costs to be ■shared with the respondents. Further cases were brought before the board.
