Mr. Rex Moore,' of Berlei (N.Z.), Ltd., left by the Niagara last night on a, business trip to Sydney. Mr. Leo du Chateau, representative of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., arrived in Auckland from the South yesterday. Squadron-Leader M. C. McGregor has been retained by the Manawatu Aero Club as instructor for the next eix months. Mr. W. R. Fee was appointed to the vacant seat on the Auckland Chamber of Commerce Council at the meeting- this morning. Messrs. A. Harris and A. J. Stallworthy, members of Parliament, arrived from Wellington by the Limited this morning. Mr. and Mrs. David L. Xathan, of Auckland, with Mr. L. D. Nathan and Master J. Nathan, will arrive at Wellington from London by the Mataroa, which is due next Wednesday. Mr. H. Temple White has been appointed sole musical adjudicator at the Napier Competitions feetival to be held next Easter. He will also judge at the Dunedin competitions next August. Mr. H. B. Vaile was welcomed 'to the council by the chairman, Mr. A. M. Seaman, at the meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce this morning. Mr. Vaile succeeds Mr. Stace Bennett, whose term of office as representative of the Auckland branch of the Real Estate Institute has expired.' Mr. A. L. Caughey, the representative of the Retail Drapers, Clothiers and Boot Manufacturers' Association on the Auckland Chamber of Commerce Council, tendered his resignation at the meeting this morning. Appreciation of Mr. Caughey's services was expressed by the chairman, Mr, A. M. Seaman. The Rev. P. N. Knight, minister of the Durham Street Methodist Church, Christchurch, and formerly of the Pitt Street Church, Auckland, has announced that, for health reasons, he will be unable to remain in charge of the circuit after the end of next March. For 43 years Mr. Knight has been in the Methodist ministry. A farewell to Mr. J. Edwards, who hae been sole teacher at Clevedon North School for the past seven years, and who has been transferred to Foxton, took place at the school. The chairman of the committee, Mr. W. T. Duder, made reference to Mr. Edwards' work, and on behalf of the residents presented him with a leather dressing case. Mr. George Sleight, formerly a student of Wellington Training College, and a graduate of Victoria University College, has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of the University of London. He has been pursuing research in child psychology (defectives) under Professor Cyril Burt and Sir Percy Nunn. Dr. Sleight is now in charge of an important special school at Harmeworth.
