FIRE AT PAPAKURA.
A four-roomed dwelling at Wairoa Road, Papakura, was destroyed by fire about 10.20 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Mr. L. Smeed, the owner, was in bed at the time and on getting up to investigate the smell of burning wood was met by flames when he opened the door. The alarm was sounded and the brigade promptly arrived and by 12.30 a.m. the fire was completely out. Only some personal effects were rescued, but they were damaged by water. The dwelling carried £400 insurance and the furniture £100, both policies being in the United Insurance Office.
