MT. WELLINGTON ROAD BOARD.
The fortnightly meeting of the Mount Wellington Road Board was held last evening, the members present being Messrs. W. Gollan (chairman), G. H. Kay, N. Walters, H. Hay and R. M. McCulloch. Mail Delivery.—The Chief Postmaster wrote stating that it had not been jpossible to reach a decision respecting the request to extend the postman's delivery to all parts of the hoard's district, but on receipt of a further report from, the postmaster, Ellerslie, further consideration would be given. Public Hall—The Mount Wellington-Panmure-Pakuranga Returned Soldiers' Club forwarded a letter stating that it was the desire of the - club to hold a number of social functions, and asking for information regarding the proposal to build a public hall. It was decided to reply, stating that the hoard would shortly be in a position to place the scheme before the ratepayers. Scrub Fires.—The superintendent of the Mount Wellington Fire Brigade drew attention to the danger likely to be created during the coming summer owing to the very strong growth of scrub and grass, particularly, in the dry volcanic Ferndale area. It was stated that during last year the dry grass was allowed to remain in close proximity to most of the houses, and as a result of the. uncontrolled lighting of fires the 'brigade had to be constantly standing by to protect property. The board decided to frame a by-law to regulate the lighting of fires, and to make it an offence to burn scrub or grass without a permit.
