OVERSEAS LEAGUE.

* 'Although not; strictly .. in accordance with the old rites the customs of many generations were' strictly adhered to on Saturday " evening,■': .when nearly 300 people thronged' the spacious rooms of tie .Oveas'eas Club, to join in the' timehonoured -celebration, of .Hallowe'en. A fearsome /looking ghost, with flashing eye greeted| the guests with, moans as they entered the. rooms, and,' after being introduced to the Queen- of Sheba,' tLey later passed among more wailing ghosts to the lounge. Here a colour scheme;-of black and .orange added a distinctive note, whilst the artistic, ornamentation of the lights were greatlyadmired. Large hollowed pumpkins, with candles burning dimly inside, were placed round the room. Silhouettes of black cats, spiders, owls and bats were arranged around the rooms, and made a suitable background for the interesting costumes of the guests. In the dining room, which was presided over by numerous witches, an unusual supper \of hot roasted potatoes, pumpkin pie, "hot dog," and other delicacies, was served. Later the witches cut the "matrimony" cake, which, was a special feature of the supper. The arrangements for the whole evening reflected great credit on the organiser, Miss Laura Montgomery. During the evening an excellent concert programme was presided over by Mr. Gage Brown, as. Mephistopheles, and items were v rendered as follows: —Bagpipe selections by Pipers Munro and Cowper; songs by Miss Olive Worger-Thomas and Messrs. Reg Morgan and Bert Skeels; Highland reel by : pupils of Miss Eileen Beresford; witch dance and ghost dance under direction of Miss Molly Searle. A sketch by Miss Leisching and Mr. Dennis Johns entitled "The Ghost Trade" created much, amusement, as did also the comedy "Horace/' presented by Miss Ailsa Plummer, Miss.Mary Worthington and Mr. Gill. Members of the various sub-committees; of the . league who assisted during the evening were: Mesdames J. M. Melville, Sharwood, Misses M. A. Early, Sutton, Nellie Montgomery, Cooke,'Willoughby, E..
