A party of Rotarians from Auckland, Hamilton and Rotorua spent an enjoyable . week-end at Bryant House as the guests of Rotarian and Mrs. Dan. Bryant, of Raglan. Among the ladies present were: Mesdames W. F. Boyle, E. R. Boucher, A. S. Anstisa, J. Trelour, A. Bisley, F. Clapham, F. House, E. Johnson, MacDiarmid and H. White. • • • * The Presbyterian Sunday school hall, Papatoetoe, was the scene of a Hallowe'en evening last night, when it was suitably decorated with skull and crossbones, lighted heads, and articles associated with witchcraft. The gueets were first introduced to two ghosts in the darkened hall and had, then to sign the ledger with an electric pencil. The programme included games, competitions, items by Misses B. Wyllie, F. Campbell and J. Wilson (songs), and an action play, depicting the capture of Lady Vere de Vere (Miss Leah Roseveare), by three Indians (Messrs. W. McComb, M. Roseveare and S. Snelling; her rescue by a cowboy (Mr. M. French), and the village belle (Miss L. Hunter), who ultimately committed suicide. The credit for the evening was given to Mrs. Hunter, Missee L. Hunter, L. and Z. Roseveare and the ladies of the St. John's Guild.

There was a good attendance at the second annual social held in the Technical College Assembly Hall on Saturday evening, when the combined evening gymnastic classes, together with members of the Badminton Club and their friends, were present. A committee of four, under the leadership of Mr. Leeves, the gmynastic instructor, were responsible for the arrangements. The programme included dancing, organised games of skill, gymnastic display, a demonstration of jiu jitsu by Mr. Adams, a local expert, and boys of the college; also an exhibition game of badminton by H. Dallimore and L. Speed, members of the college club, who were successful this year in .winning the Auckland and New Zealand B grade doubles championship. Miss Seay, the home science mistress, with student assistants, provided an excellent supper in the cafeteria. Mr. J. Dalliinore, on behalf of the evening gymnastic classes, presented Mr. Leeves with a badminton racquet, as a token of their appreciation for what he had done for them during their , gymnastic training. Mr. Leeves suitably responded.

A pleaeant afternoon at outdoor games was held at the home of Mrs. H. B. Burnett on Friday afternoon in aid of the Y.W.C.A. Clock golf, ladder golf, clock croquet, quoits, skittles and deck tennis were enjoyed, and over 100 keen players were present. The bright, eunuy afternoon in the midet of a' week of dreary weather was the cause of much congratulation. Afternoon tea 6erved by Mre. Burnett and a band of willing ladies gave occasion for happy social intercourse. The following were prizewinners :—Guessing competition for weight of cake, Mrs. Miiriro; clock golf, Mis« Skeat; ladder golf, Mrs; Bruce; croquet, Mrs. Fox; skittlee,. Mre. Low; quoite, Miss Burnett; deck tennis, Mrs. Strong; carpet croquet, Mrs. Low. A humorous recitation by Mrs. J. Tool, and dancing on the lawn by pupils of Madam Edith Baird were appreciated by all' present. At the conclusion, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, president of the Y.W.C.A., expressed thanke for the support given. Mrs. Campbell also thanked Mrs. Burnett and the performere, and others who had assisted.

The newly formed Animal Welfare Association will benefit considerably from the proceede of a delightful dance and bridge party held at the Domain Kiosk last evening. Mrs. Arthur C. Green, the hostess, welcomed the guests in a black souple satin, with scarlet corsage, and geranuim red crepe de chine wrap. The social hall of the kiojsk was decorated with a canopy of hanging wistaria, bowls of red roses with their fragrant perfume gracing the supper tables. Mrs. Henley supplied excellent dance music, and vocal items were rendered by Mrs. Hobday and Mrs. Nelson. The prize winners were: Mi's. H. W. B. Kennett, Miss Stewart, Messrs. Oeorge Smith, H. G. K. Adamson; Monte Carlo waltz, Miss E. Queen and Mr. Jack Valder.

A successful seven-table bridge evening was given by Mr. and Mrs. J. Mennie, at their home in Wairere Avenue, Mount Albert,' in aid of the lepers on Makogai Island. The rooms were tastefully decorated with spring flowers, and Mrs. Mennie received her guests wearing a black satin frock and fur-trimmed bridge coat. At the supper adjournment Mr. D. L. Thomas, organiser in New Zealand for Christinas cheer for the unfortunate inhabitants of Makogai, gave an interesting account of the work that was being done for the sufferers, and of the conditions on th 6 island. Among thoee present were: Mcsdames D. Lawrie, L. Parmenter, S. Dimery, G. A. Pearson, A. Smythe, F. Hill, A. Bishop, B. L. Golding, Gladding, J. Stevens, H. James and Miss Sheila Baker. The prizes were won by Mrs. Dimery and Mr. Lawrie.

The members of the Buckland's Beach Bowling Club received valuable aseietance from their lady friends last Saturday, on the occasion of the official opening of the club, when they provided for the members and their visitors a very tastefully arranged afternoon tea. The little pavilion wae beautifully decorated, and a profusion of spring flowers made still more attractive the appetising dainties that covered the tables. Those who officiated at afternoon tea included Mesdamee Ei W. Inder, R. W. Clare, E. Howden, L. Howden, G. W. Maeon, H. E. Skitch, Lennard and Morrison, Missee Ola Baeter and E. Dickson. Among the visitors were Mre. Raymond Sheath, wife of the president of the Auckland Bowling Centre, Mrs. James Paecoe, wife of the past president, and Mre. Fred Hoeking, wife of the vice-president.

A gay birthday dance was given by Mr. and Mrs. Warbrick at the Pirate Shippe Cabaret, at Milford, on Saturday evening, for their daughter, Roma. There were a large number of guests and for their amusement dancing and- games were arranged with an interlude for a clever entertainment by Mr. and Mrs. Bailey, who gave two short sketches, and two songs by Mr." Warbrick. The Pirate Band gave its services for dance music. A dainty supper was laid on the upper deck, the decorations being baskets of roses and overhead large clusters of balloons. Mrs. Warbrick received her gueets wearing sedge green moire velvet; Miss Roma Warbrick, wagjn ivory satin;, and Miss Shirley Warbrick, white georgette. Among the guests were: Mrs. Hutchens, wearing hunter's green Nottingham lace; Mrs. MacFarlane, black crepe marocain; Mre. Winks, black and gold lame; Mre. Gooding, black net and gold embroideries; Mrs. Green, flowered black taffeta; Mrs. Bailey, silver tinsel; Mrs. J. Mander, cherry lace and net; Miss D. Lewis, pink net over satin; Miss J. Brown, primrose satin; Miee S. Scales, blue taffeta and silver; Miss J. Warren, blue georgette; Miss Toss well, rose taffeta; Miss Gooding, shell pink organdie; Mise E. Wilson, blue satin; Miss •B. This year, instead'of a fancy dress ball, the Belmont School held a pets' day on Saturday. In spite of the cold weather a great variety of pets were brought' by the children. Dogs were the most numerous, but amongst the. othere were a grey rabbit, with a family of seven, a monkey, a goat, several cats, bantams, pigeons, canaries, and, by no means the least interesting, a pair of tuataras. The pets were on exhibition, and the first priza was won by a Pomeranian, owned by Nancy Knight, whilst the second prize was awarded to Jack Parkes' goat. An address was given to the assembled children by Mr. Tyedale, on "Kindness to Animals." During the afternoon Mr. ■Blenkarne. presented the medale to the seventh grade Soccer team, and the Harrison Shield was presented to the winning team. The various stalls were in charge of the following:—Tearooms, Mrs. Gaudin'and the ladies' of the Belmont-Bayewater League; cake stall, Mrs. J. Nettleton and Mrs. Carpenter Arthur; sweets stall, Mrs. Francis and Miss Restell; ice cream, Mre. Powell and Mrs. Rambaud; fancy etall, Misses Ferguson, Hattaway, Clist, Campbell, and Davidson; produce etall, Messrs. McLaughlin and Herbert; jumble stall, Mr.. Craig ami Miss Esdaile; flower stall Misses Dryland and Monckton;, A squadron- of boys gaVe an exhibition of drill, whilst several folk dances were given by the girls.
