GAY COCKADE SPRINTS FAST

KILTOWYN WORKS IMPRESSIVELY

The going at Ellerslie this morning was on the dead side after the recent heavy rain, but improved as ■ the work progressed. No. 2 grass was available, and a number of horses worked on the sand track. On Approval was the first to work, completing six furlongs in 1.26 2-5, doing it comfortably. Over a similar distance Court Haven recorded 1.23 4-5. Supreme i Ruler strode over five furlongs in 1.12 , 1-5, and hie stablemate, Ruling King, was timed to run the last halt" mile of his jvork in 55 2-ss. Ruling King looks an improved horse since his racing at Avondale. Marching Song, Hawthorn and 1 Bright Flower were companions over six furlongs, running the first three in 41s, and were easing up to register 1.26 1-5. Imamint sprinted half a mile in 52is, and Good Idea executed a similar task in 57 1-os. Echo Song was sent five furlongs, running the first two in 275, and finishing up in 1.6 3r5. , Hampton Park worked over the same ground,.which he traversed in 1.5 4-5. Royal Gallant given strong work, averaging 15s to the furlong. Neil and Mahkill were timed to complete a round in 1.59 2-5. They could have improved on this effort. Zane Grey and Ornamental did serviceable work over six furlongs, but were not after time. Llanore and Tahae Mea finished ou terms at the end of a half-mile sprint which took 51 4-ss. Tetrarchate and Deputy Ruler sprinted a few furlongs, hitting out very freely, particularly the latter. My Money and Barn Dance averaged about 15s to the furlong over five furlongs. Patutahi got to the end of a round in 1.55 3-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.28 1-5. After Breakfast. Catoma ran six furlongs in 1.22, going very easily throughout. Sister Em worked over half a mile, which she completed in 53 3-ss, and Traced finished up a useful task by running her last half mile in 56 2-ss. United was sprinted three furlongs twice, taking 42s the first time and 42 3-5s on the second occasion. From a standing start Kiltowyn ran hie first three furlongs in 395, and got to the end of six furlongs in .1.19 3-5. This was a pleasiiiig performance. . Gay Cockade was at top when he jumped off at the halfmile post, running his first furlong in 12 l-ss, and completing his gallop in 50s. Cynthia N. did strong work over a round, which she covered in 1.55, the final six furlongs taking 1.25 2-os. Tarporle.y cantered round to the three-furlong post, and ran home in 43 3-ss, doing it very easily. Claremore worked over a round, averaging about 15s to the furlong for the last six. Glenhaupo, after being schooled, completed a round with Deniylus in 1.53 3-5, the final six furlongs taking 1.23 4-5.

Glenhaupo (Preston) jumped a couple of pony hurdles, giving a satisfactory display.

Other horses to do useful taske were: Vandyke, Brampton, Chief Emerald, Thunderstorm, Mee Musk, Sir Val. Glcnromney, • Angie, Haakon, Miss Xorval, Psychologist, Lady Winifrede, General Lu and Teremai (the filly by Tea Tray from Taiamai). AT TAKANINI. A QUIET MORNING. The middle grass was in use at Takanini this morning, the poles being about 20 feet out. The going was inclined to be heavy. Huntingdon was allotted an easy three furlongs, which he covered in 42 3-ss. Gold Pocket had the measure of Expectancy at the end of a similar distance in 40 2-ss. Princess Star concluded her work with a brush up the straight. Bell Topper and Alignment both went pleasingly over half a mile in 545. Lady Vane got the better of Foulwind at the start of half a mile, and maintained her advantage to the end, recording 545. Chief Joy, Prolyxo and Gay Marigold were together throughout six furlongs, which they completed in 1.22. They could have improved on this time. Imperial Prince and Holly Lu ran five furlongs in 1.6 3-5, but they were not doing their best. Great Emblem, with Eldora as a companion over the last five furlongs, ran seven, furlongs in 1.38.
