UNIVERSITY CLUB.
A good muster of athletes gathered for the University Club's opening function of the season —a field day held at the Auckland Grammar School grounds. The ground was a little wet but a good afternoon's sport was enjoyed. Results were as follows :— 50 Yards Handicap.—First heat: Thompson (2yds) 1, Moody (syds) 2, Mason (4yds) o. Time, 5 4-ss. Second heat: Jenkin (6vds) 1, Wooller (3yds) 2. Warren (scr) and Ilewitson (3yds), tie, 3. Time, 5 3-ss. Final: Moody 1, Warren 2, Jenkin a. Time, 5 3-ss. Putting 121b Shot.—-Mason. 36ft Bln 1; Jones. 35ft 2in, 2: Ling. 34ft 2in, 3. Discus. —Ling, 89ft liin, 1 ; Wooller, 88ft Sin. 2; Jones, 83ft 81n, 3. In an exhibition throw, Mr. Gilmer, of Canada, threw 102 ft 91n. 600 Yards Handicap.—Barker (20yds) 1, Jenkin (25yds) 2, Warren (10yds) 3. Time, 1.23 1-5. The scratch men, Hewitson and G. Hill, ran Into handy positions, but Barker and Jenkin left them behind in the sprint and Warren ran a well judged race for third.
