DECLINE IN STERLING.
" NERVOUS INSTABILITY." ' LONDON, October 23. The decline in sterling has revealed nervous instability in the market. Prophets who a week ago spoke of British securities progressing on a 3 per cent basis, now forecast a general decline in gilt-edged stocks and advise buying gold and sitting on it. These extremes of sentiment prevent a reasonable estimate being made of the future. Calculations must forecast the direction in which the "sheep" will stampede next. The best opinion considers that sterling is likely to decline till the end of the year.
