IN AND OUT OF BOOKMAKER'S OFFICE. EVIDENCE OF DETECTIVE. VAGRANCY CHARGE ADJOURNED. "You must do other work than hanging around bookmakers.' offices, you know," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning to George Francis Healey (44), a cook. Healey, for whom Mr. K. C. Aekins appeared, pleaded not guilty to a charge deeming him to be an idle and disorderly person with insufficient -means of support. Detective Moore said that for the past three weeks he had seen Healev, almost daily, hanging about Queen Street and going in and out of a well-known bookmaker's office. "He is known as a 'guesser,' and when I arrested him he was penniless, but had some double charts and two telegrams containing the names of racehorses," added the dntec-, tive. "Healey is not registered at the Labour Bureau." Mr. Aekins: Do you know that Healey has all his unemployment levies fully paid lip? —Yes, that is so. "Well, a man who has paid his levies does not need to register at the Labour Bureau," said counsel. "It is not an unusual thing for a man to have double charts in his possession?" "No, it is not." Other men besides Healey go into bookmakers' offices? —\cs. You also found on him a reference from a well-known Canterbury gentleman? —Yes. Counsel said Healey had only been in town a month. He came from the South Island. . ITealcy said he would go to a relief camp if it was thought necessary. "All right," said the magistrate, "I will adjourn the case for a fortnight,
